1. Mode of visa application

Earlier: Students needed to apply for a visa through paper / online application

Now: Student can apply online ONLY for study permit through the IRCC portal. Priority based processing will happen for a complete online application.

2. Study permit deadline

Earlier: For the Sep intake, the deadline to apply for a study permit (visa) was 15th August

Now: For the Sep’20 intake, the deadline to apply for a study permit is 15th September

3. Study permit application stage

Earlier: it required Students to have a study permit to get the benefit of work permit, if they start their classes online.

Now: Even if students have made a study permit application and waiting for an outcome, they can start their classes online and will qualify for full work permit given they get their visa approval at a later stage. The advantage now is that the time count will begin from the first day of class if they made study permit application before 15th Sep, and not from the day students get visa. So basically, what it means for Shreehari is that if our counsellors and students are confident about their visa chances, we can make a visa application and start classes online.

4. Visa approval stage

Earlier: A complete application including biometrics, medical, other relevant documents normally used to get only one visa-outcome either approval or refusal

Now: Because of the current situation, IRCC will give visa-outcome in two stages.

  • In-principal approval (IPA) – Student can submit their study permit applications without biometrics or medical etc. and if they meet the eligibility requirement, they’ll get an in-principal approval from IRCC
  • Final approval – students who get their in-principal approval (IPA) will still be required to submit the remaining documents at a later date. When they do that, they get their final approval. Getting an in-principal approval does not guarantee a final approval. After submitting biometrics, if they find students to be a security threat or medical threat, it could deny their final approval.

5. Impact on finalization for online classes:

  • Students who have applied for a visa can opt for online classes and they will count the time spent on online classes towards full work permit, given they get a visa at a later stage.
  • Student who has received an in-principal approval (IPA) can opt for online classes and they’ll qualify for full work permit, given they submit the remaining documents at a later stage and get the final approval
  • Students who have received visa earlier can continue to opt for online classes

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.
Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.
The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.
The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it is important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).
At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. WHO will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings become available?

Be up to date with the latest information on the COVID-19 pandemic, available on the reliable sources of information like WHO, your national and local public health authority etc. Most of the people who are infected, may experience mild illness and get recovery in around 14 days, but it can be more severe for others. Take care of your health and protect others by doing the following:

Wash your hands frequently

Regularly and thoroughly clean, your hands around 20 seconds with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water because it kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain social distancing

Maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing because when someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth, which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth frequently

Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Practice respiratory hygiene

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately because droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

If you have fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice immediately

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider

Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Follow advice given by your healthcare provider, your national and local public health authority or your employer on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on whether COVID-19 is spreading in your area. They are best placed to advise on what people in your area should be doing to protect themselves.
