Under the Express Entry system, there are different immigration programs, each with its own eligibility criteria. These programs are the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. To start the Express Entry process, you must first qualify under one of these categories.
The Express Entry process involves two main steps:
- Create an online Express Entry profile and enter a pool of candidates.
- Receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence from the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada).
Candidates in the pool are ranked using a point-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Just being in the Express Entry pool doesn’t guarantee an invitation to apply. Applicants must meet all the eligible and admissibility requirements. When candidates enter the pool, they are given a CRS score based on factors such as education, work experience, language skills, and more. The highest-ranking candidates are regularly selected from the pool and invited to apply for permanent residence.
